“The busiest railway station (including subways) is Shinjuku Station in Tokyo, Japan, which had an average daily passenger throughput of 2,704,703 in 2022,” reads the statement on the official website of Guinness Book of World Records.

Annually, approximately 1.27 billion passengers transit the station to get on a train. In 2018, the station received recognition from Guinness World Records for being the busiest railway station in the world, which it continues to hold to this day.

“Shinjuku Station is located on the boundary between the Shinjuku and Shibuya wards, which together cover most of the busiest parts of downtown Tokyo. It serves several different train and subway operating companies, including JR East (Japan Railways), Keio Corporation, Odakyu Electric Railway, Toei Subway and Tokyo Metro,” it further added.
