The clock is ticking on Endrick’s World Cup hopes with Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti admitting the Real Madrid youngster needs game time if he is to be considered for the squad.

The 19-year-old has been a peripheral figure at Madrid this season, playing just 11 minutes of football under Xabi Alonso.

He has won 14 caps for Brazil but was not included in the squad for the doubleheader against Senegal in London and Tunisia in Lille with Ancelotti suggesting he needs to move away from the Santiago Bernabeu to get more minutes.

He told Placar: “I talked to him at the beginning of this season. He was injured, but now he’s fine, back, and he has to work out with his camp what’s best. Talk to the club to see what’s best for him.”

Lyon loan likely for Endrick

It has been widely reported that Endrick is keen to go to Lyon on loan in January on the understanding he will be a starter under Paulo Fonseca, and join a club that has a rich history of Brazilian players, such as Juninho, Edmílson, Bruno Guimarães and Lucas Paquetá.

A move to the Groupama Stadium, and a strong second half of the season, may be enough for Endrick to force his way back into the reckoning but, even if he does miss out, Ancelotti is confident he will get plenty more opportunities to play on the biggest stage.

The former Madrid boss added: “Endrick is very young, this will not be his last World Cup. He could play the 2026 World Cup, because he has the necessary quality, but he could also be in the 2030 World Cup, or in the 2034 World Cup, and even maybe in the 2038 World Cup. I think it’s important for him to play again and demonstrate his quality.”

African nations will test Brazil

The games with Senegal and Tunisia will be interesting tests for Brazil, who struggled though the Conmebol qualifying section.

Ancelotti claims he will know around 18 players for his World Cup group by the time the next international break comes round in March.

“We could have about 18 players defined,” he said. “[But] the fact is that in soccer there are many injuries, so you never know for sure. Today we could make a list, but tomorrow or after the Champions League matches we have to change it.”
