The Scotsman is set to become a free agent in the summer…
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says he feels “relaxed” about his future despite entering the final year of his contract at Anfield.
The 31-year-old had been linked with a summer exit following Liverpool’s signing of Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, with Atletico Madrid among the clubs showing interest.
But Robertson chose to stay on Merseyside, where he has been a key figure since joining from Hull City in 2017.
“I think last season everyone got tired of talking about the same three lads – Mo, Virgil and Trent,” Robertson told reporters.
“But for me, my relationship with this club has been a wonderful one. They’ve done everything for me and my family, and I’d like to think I’ve given a lot back after coming here for £8 million.
“Whatever happens next will happen behind closed doors. I’m completely relaxed. If this is my last year, so be it. If not, that’s fine too.”
Despite competition from Kerkez, Robertson has started Liverpool’s last three matches at left-back, producing strong performances against Aston Villa and Real Madrid.
Asked if contract talks had begun, he admitted the summer had been a mentally draining period. “It was a stressful summer in terms of decisions,” he said.
“I told myself to just enjoy the next few months before things start to take over again – because that’s what happens when you enter your final six months. Right now, I just want to focus on football. I’m happy to be playing again, and whatever comes next, I’ll deal with it. The club has been amazing for me.”
