Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar was taken to hospital on Tuesday after suffering what doctors described as a heart-related issue.

His club, Sao Paulo, confirmed in a statement that the 34-year-old is in a stable condition and remains under medical observation.

The Brazilian side added that Oscar will undergo further tests to identify the exact nature of the problem.

According to the club, the incident occurred during routine medical examinations ahead of their 2026 pre-season preparations. Sao Paulo said the midfielder “presented an incident with cardiological changes” during testing and was immediately attended to by the club’s medical staff, with assistance from doctors at Einstein Hospital Israelita, who were on site at the time.

The club’s statement added that updates will be provided “as soon as there is an evaluation from the medical team, in agreement with Oscar,” while also asking for respect for the player’s privacy.

Oscar rejoined Sao Paulo, where he began his professional career, in December 2024 after spending seven years in China with Shanghai Port.

During his first season back, he featured 27 times in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists, though he also missed stretches of the campaign due to muscle injuries and a fractured lower back.

Before his spell in Asia, Oscar enjoyed a successful five-year stint at Chelsea between 2012 and 2017, winning two Premier League titles and establishing himself as one of Brazil’s leading midfielders.

He has made 48 appearances for the national team.
