Chennai:Urging Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to ‘stop reels rule and start real administration’ by meeting the media and answering the questions of the people, the DMK youth wing launched an acerbic broadside on its erstwhile ally, the Congress, even as the DMK president M K Stalin said the youth were the future of the DMK and called upon them to upgrade their plans and execution.
The youth wing accused the Congress of backstabbing the DMK, with whose help the national party had won so many elections and even got a Rajya Sabha seat, and leaving the alliance overnight without a word of gratitude after winning five Assembly seats as an ally because the voters wanted the DMK to form the government at its meeting in Chennai on Saturday.
Reacting to the attack on the Congress, State Minister Rajeshkumar, who was one of the five MLAs referred to by the DMK youth wing, said it was preposterous to say that the parties in the Secular Progressive Alliance won seats in the Assembly only because of the DMK.
Rajeshkumar also said that he was pained to learn that indecent slogans were raised against the Congress, its leader Rahul Gandhi and the VCK at the DMK youth wing in the presence of DMK president M K Stalin and the leader of the opposition Udhayanidihi Stalin.
Stating that neither the DMK nor the AIADMK had contested or won any election without forming an alliance since 1967, he said that if the DMK was confident of winning the 2026 Assembly elections without the support of its allies, it could have avoided the coalition and faced the elections alone.
Accusing the ruling Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) of throwing muck at the DMK, which was providing a government that took care of the safety of women and children, and winning the elections, the DMK youth wing said the new government was floundering on the law and order front as more than 30 incidents of rape, murder and robberies had rocked the State in 13 days of its rule.
While reports on heinous crimes were pouring in from all over, the government was diverting attention from them by creating reels on events related to the Chief Minister like him removing his coat or wearing sunglasses or driving the Bolero jeep or riding the battery-operated vehicle, a resolution passed at the youth wing meeting in Chennai on Saturday said.
Of the 9 resolutions passed in the meeting, the one on the deterioration of law and order listed the crimes reported after the TVK came to power and the one on the Congress betrayal said that the national party was now enjoying the fruits of power only because they won the elections on the strength of the votes garnered by the DMK as an ally.
