I packed so much into Antler’s cabin suitcase that I don’t need to hold luggage – and it’s £45 off

As a chronic overpacker, I put Antler’s cabin-size suitcase to the test to see if I could fit enough into it to not need hold luggage – and I couldn’t believe how much it would hold

It doesn’t matter whether I’m going on a week abroad or on a two-day city break; I have never, ever mastered the art of packing light. I will find a justification for just about any “just in case” item you could think of, and will regularly take three or four pairs of shoes for a weekend away. You know, just in case.

In an attempt to cut down on my baggage fees ahead of summer holidays, I tested out Antler’s Icon Stripe Cabin with Pocket Suitcase to see if it could either help me curb my overpacking, or at least make sure I could fit everything I needed in a smaller case. Thankfully Antler’s suitcase is roomy enough to fit plenty inside, whilst still being compact enough to fit in overhead lockers, making it a summer travel essential.

The Icon Stripe Cabin Suitcase is usually priced at £230, but for the Bank Holiday weekend it’s been slashed by 20%, making it now just £184 and saving you £46. The sale applies sitewide for the whole weekend, making now a great time to snap up Antler’s travel staples for less.

Antler’s Icon Stripe Cabin Suitcase

  • Water resistant shell
  • Silent glide 360 spinner wheels
  • TSA-approved combination lock
  • Two padded sleeves in front pocket for tech
  • Three interior zip pockets
  • Internal compression straps

To test it out, I took the Icon Stripe Cabin Suitcase on a three day trip to London, which required outfits for the office, for an event and all the essentials like toiletries, comfy clothes and travelling clothes. Now whilst this wouldn’t usually require a full-size suitcase, it would mean I was stuffing items into every crevice of my old cabin case, it would weigh a tonne, and I’d arrive with a suitcase full of rumpled clothes.

Despite being small enough to use as hand luggage – and it fits in the overhead compartment on a train, too – the inside is deceptively roomy. It has two main large compartments, as well as several smaller ones which are great for organisation. The main zippered compartment also features two mesh compartments, as well as a small attached pouch in the other section which is great for valuables or smaller items like jewellery or hair accessories.

If you’re looking for something that’ll tuck right under your plane seat, rather than in the lockers, the Taygeer Ryanair Cabin Bag is perfect. It also features multiple compartments, unzips just like a suitcase, but has measurements that mean it’ll fit right under your seat so you don’t need to pay anything extra for baggage. For other cabin suitcases, this Skyrail Cabin Suitcase 55cm Spinner TSA Pink is a bargain right now, down from £99 to £49.

What sets the Icon Stripe Cabin with Pocket Suitcase apart from others is that it has a separate front compartment which can be accessed without opening the main suitcase bit. It has a laptop sleeve inside, although the only downside is it’s quite slim, which means there’s not really enough room for large plugs or chargers in it as it won’t zip up.

However the interior room more than makes up for this, and the other major plus point is just how lightweight this suitcase is. As someone with back problems, I know all too well the struggle of dragging a heavy case around after you or trying to lift it into overhead lockers.

However, this was so light (even when full of multiple pairs of shoes, outfit changes and a hefty beauty kit) that I could easily pop it in the top compartment without issue. The Icon Stripe Cabin with Pocket Suitcase also has four wheels which are smooth and quiet, so you can whizz it around with no issues at all.

Although a week or more’s trip abroad will probably still call for a large suitcase, whenever I head on long weekends, city breaks and quick getaways, Antler’s Icon Stripe Cabin with Pocket Suitcase will do the job perfectly. No more juggling multiple bags, no more fighting with lifting it into lockers, and no more having to iron at the other end. A winner all round in my eyes.
