Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has completed 99 per cent of household enumeration under the Census-2027 exercise, commissioner H.M. Dhyana Chandra said on Sunday.
He said officials, enumerators and supervisors had been conducting the survey in a coordinated manner by identifying and recording details of every household within the municipal limits.
The commissioner said the household enumeration process had reached 99 per cent completion, while the population census component had so far achieved 67 per cent completion.
Explaining the delay in the population census process, Dhyana Chandra said several families had travelled out of the city during the summer holidays, while many houses remained locked.
He said enumerators and supervisors were revisiting locked houses regularly to collect details after residents returned.
Describing the Census exercise as an important national programme, the commissioner appealed to citizens to cooperate by providing accurate information.
He said reliable statistics played a crucial role in welfare planning, infrastructure development and government policy decisions.
Dhyana Chandra appreciated residents for supporting the household enumeration process and expressed confidence that the population census component would also soon reach 100 per cent completion.
