It came just a few days after she created history at Times Square, by stopping the traffic for staging a massive, unannounced pop-up concert. The Queen of Pop served the Manhattan crowd with the 15-minute spectacle in order to celebrate Pride Month and the LGBTQ+ community. Recently, on June 8, 2026, the 67-year-old hit the headlines once again, due to her Confessions II – The Film drop, drawing in criticism regarding one specific part.

Confessions II – The Film is a 13-minute musical short film that acts as a continuous visual album for the first six tracks of Madonna‘s upcoming studio album, Confessions II. For the unversed, it is the highly anticipated sequel to her 2005 record, Confessions on a Dance Floor. Confessions II‘s promo film is directed by the creative duo, TORSO (David Toro and Solomon Chase), and it premiered at the Tribeca Festival, before Madonna released it globally on her official YouTube channel. It has two purposes: providing a glimpse of what she’s up to in her upcoming album and heightening hype around it, which it has successfully done.

Madonna’s Confessions II – The Film‘s bathroom sequence has got the internet talking. Some of her fans didn’t read much into it, stating that it followed the 67-year-old’s pattern of going bolder with each comeback, while others slammed her alleging that she went too far this time. The controversial segment is included in the track, Danceteria and takes place in a chaotic, packed nightclub bathroom. In the scene, Madonna enters men’s bathroom and touched the butts of all the men present there. Many found it explicit, eccentric and distasteful. It sparked conversation around social responsibility and gender roles.

Some fans alleged that if the gender was reversed and an MV showed a man barging into a female restroom and touching them without consent, then they would have received immense hate. They stated, “Fascinating how she has always exploited society’s double-standards. If a man were to walk in a woman’s restroom and start touching women without consent, we’d hear all the cries about ‘misogyny.'” Another X (formerly Twitter) user cited male artists like Bad Bunny, saying if they were to film such a bathroom scene, they would have been cancelled, and their careers would have been over.

A third commented, “Did you know she has been quoted to say, She doesn’t allow her kids to watch TV, especially Hollywood or her music”. This is exactly why.” Madonna did say that in one of her old interviews but that might have been due to her kids’ young ages at that time and not due to her content being allegedly explicit. Notably, her daughter, Lourdes Leon not only watched the Confession II songs, but also featured in the promotional film.

The 13-minute short film, which serves as a visual teaser for her upcoming album, Confessions On A Dance Floor: Part II, included a star power no one saw coming. Fans were taken aback by seeing some very unexpected faces, like Cole Palmer and Kate Moss. A fan wrote, “How did she get Kate Moss to do that?” referring to the controversial bathroom scene. The rest of the cameos included Garner, Arca, Archie Madekwe, Benedict Cumberbatch, Madonna’s longtime friend, Debi Mazar, Gwendoline Christie, Honey Dijon, Joao Pedro, Odessa A’zion, Richard E Grant, Shygirl, and Confessions II lead single collaborator, Sabrina Carpenter.
