Laura Whitmore, 41, last week announced she the arrival of her second child with husband and Love Island co-star Iain Stirling, as she detailed the ‘dramatic’ birth
New mum Laura Whitmore looks incredible as she flashes her ‘postpartum knickers’ a week after giving birth. The former Love Island host, 41, recently announced the arrival of her second child with Scottish comedian Iain Stirling.
Presenter Laura revealed in a post on social media last week that her baby had arrived “unexpectedly early” but the star is yet to reveal the name and gender of her newborn.
The Irish star has, however, been fully open with her post-birth body and praised women as “superheroes” in a post on Instagram this afternoon as she reflected on her pregnancy and current post-partum state. The star shared a mirror selfie in her underwear with a knit cardigan draped over her as she showed off her post-partum body, joking that “hot girl summer looks a bit different”.
She told her 1.4 million followers: “I’ve never been more impressed or appreciative of my body than during and post pregnancy. Don’t even talk to me about birth. Women are bloody superheroes. Whatever your journey, the recovery looks different to everyone but wearing big girl pants helps!!
“Growing a baby, birthing a baby.. and then feeding a baby… surely men could have taken one of those jobs.”
The Dublin-born presenter has been inundated with messages of support, including from US singer-songwriter Anastacia who said she is “still looking fashionable” despite her “big girl pants”.
Taking to social media, Laura announced the happy news last week and said: “We welcomed the most precious baby last month, unexpectedly early and with dramatic flair (wouldn’t expect anything else).
“I had made a 5 hour birthing playlist this time.. only played about 3 songs – ended up using it post birth. It’s a reaaally good playlist, can somebody please use it. Been enjoying baby smells, lack of sleep and scrumptious hands and wrists.”
Laura had hidden her pregnancy for months, announcing the happy news in February. As part of her announcement, she posted a number of photos of her hiding her baby bump, and captioned it: “Instagram V Reality – Spoiler: It wasn’t just a big meal mama ate. She’s been cooking away! I’d like to thank stretchy pants and travel sick bags.”
Laura admitted she had not been as kind to her body after she gave birth, but after checking in with herself, she realised that she needed to prioritise herself and her body too.
“I think you spend the whole pregnancy counting down until you give birth, you kind of forget the big job is what comes after. I chose to breastfeed exclusively; everything was about my baby – I didn’t really think about my body as something for me so when I did get it back, I made a conscious decision to be as kind to it then as I was when I was pregnant,” she said.
Following the birth of her daughter in March 2021, Laura took to Instagram to discuss body positivity among post-partum women, and said that her body is “not here for your comparison”.
She urged people to stop comparing mothers’ bodies, and encouraged women to “support other women”. Laura – who hosted Love Island from 2020 until 2022 – announced her second pregnancy with a series of photos shared to Instagram in February this year.
In the snaps she could be seen showing off her growing baby bump, and in the caption wrote: “Instagram V Reality. Spoiler: It wasn’t just a big meal mama ate.
“She’s been cooking away! I’d like to thank stretchy pants and travel sick bags.”
