Kakinada: ICAR’s Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research (IIPR) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and Patanjali Foods for utilisation of a technology developed by the institute for rapid detection of Ganoderma disease in oil palm plantations.
Speaking on the occasion, IIOPR director Kancherla Suresh said the collaboration would greatly benefit Ganoderma-infected palms even before severe disease symptoms become evident.
This would help farmers take timely preventive and management measures to contain the spread of the disease. The institute director said the technology would ensure healthy plantations, enhanced income to farmers, and sustainable oil palm production. Patanjali Foods vice president P. Mallesam said the primary objective of the partnership is to make available to farmers a reliable and rapid diagnostic technology for accurate detection and timely management of Basal Stem Rot caused by Ganoderma, one of the major challenges affecting productivity and sustainability of oil palm plantations.
