Artemis III Mission, Meet Crew Members, Randy Bresnik, Luca Parmitano, Frank Rubio And Andre Douglas

After the success of the Artemis II mission, NASA recently introduced the four astronauts, who will be a part of the Artemis III mission. Reportedly, it is planned for 2027, and unlike previous missions, this one will not land on the moon; however, it will focus on technologies needed for the future. For those who do not know, Artemis II was launched a few months ago and it returned back on April 11, 2026. The crew of the Artemis III mission announced

A while ago, NASA announced the name of the four astronauts that will be a part of the Artemis III mission. Well, Randy Bresnik will be the commander, Luca Parmitano will be the pilot, and Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas will be the mission specialists. Apart from them, NASA also explained that astronaut, Bob Hines is the backup member. The NASA Administrator recently shared:

“Today we take another bold step in humanity’s return to the Moon, building on the extraordinary foundation laid by the Artemis II astronauts. Their achievements reignited global excitement for exploration, and now they pass the torch to the Artemis III team, Randy, Luca, Frank, and Andre.”

Talking about the crew members, Randy Bresnik is one of the most experienced astronauts. He is also a retired colonel in the United States Marine Corps. Reportedly, he has been on multiple missions. Luca Parmitano, who will be the pilot of the upcoming mission, is an Italian astronaut. In the past, he has been a part of two long-duration missions. As per NASA, he became a pilot in 2007 and later was promoted to colonel in 2019.

Coming to the mission specialists, Frank Rubio once served in the U.S. Army as an aviator and a physician, For the unversed, he is best-known for spending 371 consecutive days in space. Lastly, talking about Andre Douglas, Artemis III will be his space journey. Previously, he worked as a test engineer. In 2021, he was selected to be part of NASA’s astronaut class. The backup astronaut, Bob Hines, was previously a research pilot at the agency’s Johnson Space Center.

What will happen in the Artemis III mission?

The Artemis III mission, which is scheduled for 2027 is expected to test the technologies and test the astronauts for future landings. As per recent reports, the crew members of the mission will not land on the moon and will focus on the crew’s safe return to the lunar surface. NASA officials have described this as an important mission. The officials mentioned:

“Artemis III will demonstrate the power of American innovation and international partnership as we test complex rendezvous and docking operations and advance the technologies that will one day carry us deeper into the solar system. This mission will require the most awe-inspiring coordination of heavy-lift rocket launches in history, drawing on the talent and capability of teams across government and the spaceflight community.”

More about Artemis II mission

Recently, NASA achieved a major milestone with their latest mission named Artemis II. The crew included Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen. For those unaware, the mission made history for multiple reasons. Artemis II lasted for 10 days and took the astronauts thousands of miles away from the moon before landing safely to Earth. During this, the crew members travelled the farthest humans have ever been. They even broke the record of Apollo.
