‘Assi’ Ending Explained, Is Taapsee Pannu As ‘Raavi’ Able To Give Justice To Ra*e Survivor ‘Parima’?

Taapsee Pannu has returned with yet another spine-chilling film. The film, Assi, directed by Anubhav Sinha hit the theatres on February 20, 2026, and it explores the life of a r**e survivor and how a criminal lawyer tries to get justice. Apart from Taapsee, the film also stars Kani Kusruti. Now that the film is generating a lot of buzz on social media, read on to know how the movie, Assi ends. 

The hard-hitting plotline of Assi

The movie, Assi opens with ‘Parima’ (played by Kani Kusruti), a school teacher, who lives with her husband, ‘Vinay’ (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) and their song. Everything is going smoothly in their life, until one horrific day. One evening, when ‘Parima’ is returning home, she gets abducted by a group of five men, who brutually ga*g ra*e her. After that, they leave her on a railway track. Later, a stranger finds her, who instantly takes her to the hospital.

Soon after ‘Parima’ is saved and rescued, an intense police investigation begins. Eventually, the accused men are arrested; however, it is just a beginning. As the film moves ahead, viewers also witness the trauma of the victim and how the system seems uninterested and uncaring. Later, a criminal lawyer, ‘Raavi’ (played by Taapsee Pannu) enters to represent her. She is determined to help ‘Parima’ get justice.

Major part of Assi is a debate in court

An intense battle takes place in court between ‘Raavi’ and the defence lawyer, who tries to raise questions on ‘Parima’s’ character and intentions. While ‘Raavi’ tries her best to present strong evidence, present witnesses, keep ‘Parima’s’ story at the center, the defence lawyer, played by Satyajit Sharma challenges everything. He questions ‘Parima’s’ character, asks every single detail regarding the incident and shifts blame on her evidence. 

During the courtroom battle, viewers are also forced to question the reality and wonder if ra*e victims actually go through such things. Apart from this, the film also explores the perspective of society. The film Assi features how people gossip about victims. In the film, ‘Parima’s’ school also avoids taking any responsibility. Her friends also struggle in helping her. As the film reaches its end, viewers doubt if ‘Raavi’ will be able to win the case, as she fails to provide some important evidence.

Assi ending explained: Does ‘Parima’ get justice?

After months of struggle, trauma and heavy emotions, ‘Raavi’ wins the case and ‘Parima’ gets justice for the horrific incident that changed her life. After multiple strong arguments, the judge, played by Revathy announces the verdict in favour of ‘Parima’ and punishes the five accused men. However, it is worth mentioning that the ending of Assi doesn’t feel like a celebration. Despite winning the case, the movie ends on a serious and heavy note. 

Is Assi based on a true story?

While Assi seems realistic, it is worth mentioning that the movie is not based on any one single case and incident. However, it is inspired by multiple such events and the news regarding se**al as***lt and the justice system. The film combines incidents from real life, such as trauma, investigations, challenges and more. During an interview with PTI, the director of Assi opened up about the movie and was quoted as saying:

“The idea was to re-normalise the news (about r*pe cases) that we have accepted as a part of life. And as long as it’s happening a thousand kilometers away from us to someone else’s daughter, we are not fine with it but we take it as ‘Ho gaya hai, ab kya kare’. I think we as a society collectively need to think about it.”
