Bihar Assembly Election: In a major decision, the Election Commission has decided that no repoll is required in any of the polling booths of 122 assembly seats in Bihar where voting was held in the second and last phase of the Bihar Assembly Election on Tuesday (November 11).

Why EC didn’t recommend any repoll?

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the apex poll panel said no repoll has been recommended in the second phase, noting that this is for the first time in the recent history of the state that no repoll has been ordered.

“After scrutiny, no discrepancy or malpractice was found at any of the polling station and no repoll was recommended. With this, over the two-phased Bihar elections zero re-poll has been recommended. This is a first in the recent history of elections in the state,” the Commission said.

The EC’s decision makes the Bihar election first in recent history where no repoll was ordered as no repolling was recommended in the first phase also.

Bihar phase-2 polls witness record-breaking turnout

Voting for the second and final phase of Bihar Assembly Election was conducted on Tuesday, ending with a record-breaking turnout of nearly 69 percent. In the first phase, on November 6, a “record” 65.09 per cent of 3.75 crore electors had cast their vote across 121 constituencies.

The counting of votes will take place on November 14 and results will be declared on the same day.

Meanwhile, all major exit polls have predicted the incumbent NDA retaining power in Bihar, and a poor showing by the opposition ‘Mahagathbandhan’ aka the INDIA bloc. The exit polls also forecasted a disappointing performance for former poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party.
