Fresh political trouble appears to be mounting for former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, with the CID intensifying its action against senior Trinamool Congress leaders. A CID team on Tuesday reached Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat office in Kolkata to serve a notice to TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee in connection with a probe into alleged irregularities in legislators’ signatures linked to appointments to key Opposition posts in the Assembly.
The agency has asked Abhishek Banerjee to appear at its South Kolkata headquarters by 5 pm on June 9 after he sought additional time twice, citing health concerns.
