With how much tickets were, why not walk on the court?
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy has called out Spike Lee for a “temper tantrum” during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Monday.
“Are we just allowing Spike Lee on the court to heckle refs in the middle of the game?” Portnoy said. “Then he calls a foul, so we are just letting opposing fans call the game.”
Lee was reacting to a questionable no-call on Victor Wembanyama, who shoved Knicks guard Jalen Brunson to the ground off the ball.
As the play continued, Lee turned his attention to Keldon Johnson, who was called for a personal foul a few seconds later.
In the clip, Lee is the only person courtside standing up until after the whistle is blown.
The actor, producer, writer and director is a staple on celebrity row in Madison Square Garden and has made appearances at Knicks road games throughout the run to the NBA Finals.
“I got my season tickets the morning after Dave DeBusschere pulled out the — I don’t know if it was hold or cold envelope, I don’t know,” Lee said on “Inside the NBA” pregame show on ESPN of the famous 1985 draft lottery in which the Knicks got the top pick, using it to choose Patrick Ewing. “And I jumped on the subway, and I slept on line.
“So I’ve had season tickets since Patrick Ewing’s rookie year. But I didn’t start courtside.”
Lee is easy to spot on television while watching the game because of his custom Pope Leo XIV Knicks jersey.
The “Do the Right Thing” director had it signed during his visit with the pontiff in November 2025 and has already worn it once this postseason, in Game 2 against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round.

Like Knicks stars Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart, Pope Leo is a Villanova alum.
