David Harbour has opened up about his firm friendship with Stranger Things co-star Winona Ryder following the collapse of his marriage to pop singer Lily Allen
David Harbour has opened up about his close friendship with Winona Ryder – following his explosive fall out with estranged wife, Lily Allen. The 50-year-old actor saw his marriage to 40-year-old Lily implode in recent weeks amid accusations of infidelity.
David has reportedly turned to 54-year-old Stranger Things co-star Winona – who has been in a relationship with fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn, 55, since 2011 – for emotional support. The pair have played Jim Hopper and Joyce Byers on the hit Netflix supernatural drama since 2016.
Last month, David was dragged into headlines after soon-to-be ex-wife Lily unleashed her new album, titled West End Girl, in which she let rip on the American actor. Following damaging accusations of unfaithfulness, David is said to be seeking solace on the shoulder of his co-worker.

In a new issue of Esquire, the actor discussed his friendship with Winona. He said: “I think that people who have done that at a level where I believe them and fall in love with them in a fake reality, I just have such awe of it.”
He added of his Stranger Things co-star: “She’s such a deeply emotional human being that I could never be, I think she feels things in a way that I could never feel them. She has a brain that… my brain couldn’t stretch to that amount of empathy. She’s just an extraordinary creature.”
David’s comments came after a source told The Sun his friendship with Winona is rock solid. The source claimed: “She has his back, and she’ll be at his side next month when they start promoting the final episodes of their show. She is not a judgmental person.
“Just like she came to Johnny Depp’s defence during his scandal, she’ll be there for David because it’s clear to her that he’s getting a raw deal in all of this.”
In her album, Lily fires a barrage of accusations at her husband. In a song titled Ruminating, Lily discusses how she was unable to sleep while working in London. She says: “I can’t shake the image of her naked.”
She then sings: “Why can’t you wait for me to come home? This conversation’s too big for a phone call. Ruminating, ruminating, I’ve been up all night. Did you kiss her on the lips, and look into her eyes?
“Did you have fun? Now that it’s done, baby, won’t you tell me I’m still your number one? ‘Cause you’re my number one.” And other tracks make similar accusations.
In his chat with Esquire, David hinted at his regret over his decisions. Asked by the magazine if there is anything he would change in his life, he said: “That’s such a hard question – the question of regret, or something. I would change either everything or nothing.
“You either accept your path completely and realise that even the pain and the slip-ups and the mistakes are all part of the journey, and that there’s truth and growth, wisdom and deeper empathy and connection in all that.
“It’s kind of like a house of cards, the minute you try to change one thing you kind of have to change it all.” He added that if he were to change anything he’d change “everything” and “just make my life happy and silly” but also said that would mean he “wasn’t an artist anymore”.
