Emily Atack and her partner Alistair Garner have banned children from their wedding. Despite the pair having a child together, the actress says she’s been left shocked by how her friends have responded to the news.
The Rivals actress, 36, and Alistair are set to tie the knot in Spain during a three-day celebration. But the happy couple don’t want their nuptials to be disturbed by any children running around. Emily and Alastair share son Barney, two, but while their wedding will be “chaos”, the couple are adamant it will be child-free.
Emily explained that the decision was made so that hers and Alastair’s nearest and dearest don’t have to cough up too much money to fly to Spain, as well as to pay for accommodation throughout the trip.
Speaking on the Romesh Ranganathan Show podcast, the star said: “We’re being kind to our friends and making sure that people don’t have to worry too much about paying for lots of things, but we have said no kids at the wedding, no children.”
However, while she expected some pushback, she was left bewildered by her friends actually replied. Emily said: “I’m surprised by how many people are happy about that. I thought I’d get a lot of people kicking off, but they’re like, ‘No, ‘f**k those kids.'”
And while planning a wedding is what most brides dream about and also have nightmares about, for Emily, it’s been nothing but plain sailing. She told Luxury London Magazine: “I think I’ve nailed it. We’re getting married in September. I’ve very much enjoyed the planning process.
“Choosing napkins and stuff. I’m like, ‘My God, my life is here!'” Sharing details of her plans, she told Hello! magazine : “It’s going to be lovely. I’ve really enjoyed planning it. It’s going to be three days of joy with all my favourite people; it’s going to be chaos.”
It was previously disclosed that Emily and Alastair had settled on a destination wedding in Spain, as she had been holidaying there since she was a child. Speaking to The Sun, a source previously said: “Emily has been going to Spain with her family on holiday ever since she was a child and loves the idea of getting married there.
“She and Alistair adore the stunning countryside there, and guaranteed sun is a bonus. They love the idea of friends and family joining them.”
Emily herself said of the country: “I loved my family holidays there when I was growing up. We had a property there, and my dad sold it a couple of years ago, but it’s our favourite place, and we still go every year, and stay in a hotel.” Last year, Emily and Alastair announced their engagement.
In the snap shared on social media, Emily was seen hugging her man while her stunning diamond ring was on full display on his bare chest. She was seen with a big smile as she nestled into her man, wearing a white vest top. Emily referenced a tune from the nineties in her caption. Sharing a lyric by The Cure, she wrote: “It’s Friday, I’m in love.” She added three diamond ring emojis.
