A thirty-year-old man was killed in Jingalup on Saturday morning after the car he was a passenger in lost control and rolled.

James Heggaton was in the front right seat of a Toyota HiLux when the 24-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle while driving along Samson Road at about 12:30am.

Heggaton sustained critical injuries and died at the scene while the driver and three other passengers – a 20-year-old man, 19-year-old woman and 18-year-old man – sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

According to 9News Perth, it’s understood the friends were driving on a gravel road on the way home from the local pub.

Heggaton was a well-known farmer in the Great Southern region, who operated his family’s Kojonup farm and businesses Evergreen Grazing and Genstock Breeding Services following the death of his father Craig Heggaton in 2024.

Three more people also lost their lives as a result of a road incident this weekend.

At about 3:30pm on Saturday, a Suzuki Grand Vitara was driving on Bullaring-Pingelly Road when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree.

The 21-year-old female driver of the vehicle sustained critical injuries and was taken to Royal Perth Hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Early Sunday morning, two people were killed after their Holden Commodore crashed into a tree in Dandaragan.

A 20-year-old male driver and a 17-year-old female passenger both sustained critical injuries after their vehicle left Dandaragan Road and collided with the tree.

Both occupants of the car died at the scene.

The tragedies come amidst National Road Safety Week with police officers urging drivers to be safe on the road.

“The WA Police Force urges all road users to take responsibility for their actions and commit to safer driving behaviours to help reduce serious and fatal crashes,” reads a WA Police media release.

Throughout the week, WA Police officers will be undertaking enforcement activity targeting the fatal five: speeding, impairment by alcohol or drugs, failure to wear seatbelts, fatigue and distraction.

“These behaviours remain the leading contributors to deaths and serious injuries on Western Australian roads,” reads the release.

Anyone with information on the Jingalup or Dandaragan crashes are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
