Harry Styles spoke about the pain of losing someone on night four of his residency in Amsterdam almost two years sine the death of Liam Payne

Harry Styles candidly opened up on the deaths of those close to him in recent years, including former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne. The Watermelon Sugar singer briefly touched on the pain of losing someone during a recent gig in Amsterdam.

On night four of his Together, Together residency in the city, he paused his show. He went on to discuss “big moments of life” and explained how impactful they have been in recent years.

Harry spoke of losing “a couple of friends over the last couple of years” with fans immediately thinking he was referring to the death of Liam in 2024. His former band mate died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina.

“There were wonderful things that happened to me and there were some difficult things that happened to me as well, I lost a couple of friends over the last couple of years,” he said.

Harry went on to say that these “big moments” have made him realise how “hard” and “inspiring” life can be it’s because of such moments that he now realises “all of the things that life could be”.

Harry recently spoke to Zane Lowe and opened up further on how Liam’s death affected him. He told the DJ: “It’s so difficult to lose a friend.

“It’s difficult to lose any friend, but it’s so difficult to lose a friend who is so like you in so many ways. I think there was a period when he passed away where I really struggled with acknowledging how strange it is to have people own part of your grief in a way.”

He went on: “I have such strong feelings around my friend passing away. And then suddenly being aware of a desire from other people of you to convey that in some way, or it means you’re not feeling what you’re feeling, you know?”

Speaking of Liam, Harry added: “I saw someone with the kindest heart who just wanted to be great.” And he said his death was “a really important moment for me in terms of taking a look at my life and being able to say to myself, ‘OK, what do I want to do with my life?

“How do I want to live my life?’ And I think the greatest way you can honour your friends who pass away is by living your life to the fullest. Like, super special person and really sad.”

Liam’s death shocked the world in October 2024. The singer’s medical cause of death was ruled by a UK inquest to be polytrauma. This means a person has multiple injuries to the body. A toxicology report also found traces of cocaine, alcohol and prescription antidepressants in his system.

Ahead of the first anniversary of his death, the star’s family raised £250,000 in his honour to support children battling cancer at Great Ormond Street Hospital. They began to raise money shortly after Liam’s death by encouraging mourning fans to donate to the hospital instead of sending flowers.

In the order of service for his funeral, it was shared that the money would go towards a new centre as part of his legacy.
