Hyderabad: A Navy trainee died while his colleague suffered injuries in a tragic road accident at Cheeryala in Keesara police station limits after the driver lost control of a bike and hit an electric pole. Keesara police suspect overspeeding caused the accident.

Police identified the deceased as Ajith K. Sathpathy, 34, from Odisha, who was riding the bike, while the injured is K.V. Ganesh, 34, from Vizag, who was the pillion rider. The duo were in the city for a five‑day training course at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). After completing the training, they borrowed a bike from an acquaintance at DRDO to explore the city.

While returning to DRDO in the afternoon, they were allegedly speeding above 100 kmph. Ajith lost control and hit an electric pole. He was dragged on the road for some distance, sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Ganesh suffered a fracture to his right thigh and was moved to hospital. Though both were wearing helmets, the impact caused a fatality. Ganesh, who is out of danger, was later shifted to Military Hospital for advanced care.

Ajith’s body was sent to Gandhi Hospital for post‑mortem. Another Navy employee, Sambamurthy from Yadgarpally, received the body and informed his family of the death.

Keesara police registered a case and are investigating further.
