Hema Malini Left Shocked When She Found Out About Shah Rukh Khan’s Real Age, ‘Thought He Must Be..’

Shah Rukh Khan turned 60 years old on November 2, 2025, leaving his sea of fans flocking to Mannat to get a glimpse of the superstar and wish him on the milestone birthday. The year is special for many reasons for Shah Rukh. While fans, family, and friends are showering loving messages on his birthday, Hema Malini is in disbelief as she always thought Shah Rukh was in his 40s.

Hema Malini reacts to Shah Rukh Khan turning 60

For those who don’t know, Hema Malini was the first one, who decided to cast Shah Rukh Khan in a leading role. She always felt he had the charm and energy needed to carry major films. Recently, in an interview with the Hindustan Times, Hema Malini revealed that she cannot believe that he has turned 60 as she always thought he was in his 40s. Hema Malini was quoted as saying:

“I can’t believe he is turning 60, I thought he must be in his 40s. From the moment I saw him in Fauji I knew he was different. He suited the rich, aristocratic man’s son’s role that I was casting for. He was smart and well spoken. I got my sister to call him and he couldn’t believe it was a call from me, he just kept giggling over the phone.”

Hema Malini not only trusted Shah Rukh’s potential but her husband, Dharmendra also loved him. She recalled how Dharmendra forced her to take Shah Rukh in her film, and even wrote dailogues for him. Recalling his charm, Hema Malini said:

“When Dharamji saw him he said, ‘Is ladke ko zaroor lena’ He even wrote some of the dialogues for him. Shah Rukh had rough-looking hair back then and was short, unlike other heroes but had a unique charm about him. Though he was great as the charming romantic hero, he also excelled in villainous roles. Today, I’m happy to see the big personality he has become.”

It is worth mentioning that Hema Malini casted Shah Rukh in Dil Aashna Hai. While it may not have become his first relase but it was a stepping stone as he was recognised for his talent among the industries’ veterans. 

When Shah Rukh revealed he couldn’t celebrate his birthday as he didn’t have money

It was in 2011, when in his birthday interaction, Shah Rukh revealed how Suhana made a poster for him and his son, Aryan added his name to it. Shah Rukh shared that on the poster it was written that he was the best father and he should never change and his children know that he works hard and still take time out to be with them. 

Further, Shah Rukh shared that he comes from humble background, due to which his family couldn’t afford to celebrate his birthday by a throwing a lavish party. He also shared that they didn’t even have money to buy a cake and he still tries to keep it as simple as he could. He said:
