Rohit Sharma misses world record

New Delhi: In the third and final match of the India-South Africa series in Visakhapatnam, Rohit Sharma came close to breaking Chris Gayle’s world record for the most sixes by an opening batsman in ODIs. Rohit played an impressive knock, as he scored 75 off 73 balls, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes, and notched up his 61st ODI fifty in 54 balls. If he had managed to hit 5 sixes in the innings as an opener, he would have claimed the record, but he fell short by two. The milestone continues to be held by Chris Gayle.

West Indies explosive batter Chris Gayle has smashed 328 sixes in 274 innings as an opener. After this ODI, Rohit Sharma has 327 sixes in just 190 innings as an opener in ODIs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal smahsed his maiden century

Talking about the match, India sealed a commanding nine-wicket win over South Africa in the third ODI on Saturday, taking the series 2–1. Young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal hit his maiden century, along with important fifties from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, powered the chase. South Africa managed to post a target of 271, India chased down the total easily with 10.1 overs remaining and nine wickets in hand.

Rohit Sharma played an impactful knock

Rohit Sharma scored 75 off 73 balls, hitting seven fours and three sixes, while Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 65 from 45 balls, which included six fours and three sixes to see India home. Yashasvi Jaiswal starred with an unbeaten 116 off 121 balls, including 12 fours and two sixes. Earlier, Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav picked four wickets each to bowl out South Africa for 270 in 47.5 overs.
