Jaire Alexander’s roller-coaster year has added another layer to an unpredictable saga.

The two-time Pro Bowl defensive back informed the Eagles on Tuesday that he will be stepping away from the team to focus on his mental and physical health, Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer first reported.

The Athletic reported that Alexander, 28, is thinking about possibly retiring from football as he thinks about his next steps. The outlet added that he had chats with the organization about his thinking over the last few days.

After Alexander battled injuries — undergoing right knee surgery in January — over the past few years and reportedly did not want to restructure his four-year, $22 million extension he signed in 2022, the Packers cut him in June.

Shortly after, Alexander signed a one-year, $6 million contract with the Ravens, playing in just two games with Baltimore before getting traded to the Eagles with a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round selection on Nov. 1.

Over the past three years, he’s played a combined 16 games, but the Eagles said after the deal that they felt good about making the move to help their secondary.

“I think when you talk about [him] still [being] a young guy, knowing where his health is at now, feeling healthy, feeling good, we felt like the risk was worth the reward with him,” Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said after the trade.
