In a recent interview, Peddi director, Buchi Bana Sana addressed the controversy surrounding Janhvi Kapoor’s character, ‘Achiyyamma’. Buchi mentioned that he never expected so much criticism. He explained that his vision towards Janhvi’s character was completely something else, but people misread the whole thing. After the backlash, Buchi shared a public apology on his social media handle. He also confirmed that necessary changes would be made. He wrote:

“After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”

In an interview, Janhvi shared that sexualising someone without consent in any and every form is not acceptable. She explained that when a DOP puts the camera in some place with which she was not okay, she speaks up without seeming unprofessional. She was quoted as saying:

“Sexualising someone, especially without their consent, that, in any and every form, I’m not okay with. And that does bother me. If a DOP puts a camera in some place that I’m not okay with, I should be able to say, nahi, ye nahi chalega mujhe nahi chahiye, without me seeming unprofessional. Sometimes I’ve been polite, and I’ve been like, I need to pick my battles, and I’ll fight them.”

“Buchi Babu completely sexualised Janhvi Kapoor in the first half. Not leaving any part of her body untouched. Shows sexual assault, RC kissing her in the dark, and labels it as his way of showing love. It’s election season in the village Janhvi is from, so she’s campaigning for her dad.
