Pop star Mariah Carey, 56, is continuing her ‘It’s time’ annual tradition as the Queen of Christmas officially released her new video marking the beginning of the holiday season
Mariah Carey has officially declared the start of the festive period in an iconic clip that saw her transform into Mrs Claus. The pop star is known as the Queen of Christmas due to the immense success of her holiday music.
She is particularly famed for her 1994 song All I Want for Christmas Is You and the album Merry Christmas. In her new post, she dons an all-white angel-like outfit with wings and feathers in the clip as she screams: “It’s time!”
The footage, created in partnership with Sephora, shows the 56-year-old singer discovering that her make-up has been stolen by an unhappy elf who declares that Christmas is “cancelled” as he and his colleagues are unhappy.

“Bad news, Mariah Carey, the elves are striking this year,” he says. “Elf revenge for putting us through holiday hell. Santa’s helper quit. I’m pawning all this so I can afford elf therapy.”
But Mariah says: “That’s my blush , elf boy.” He replies: “Your lipstick? I’m taking it. Christmas is cancelled. No bells, no cheer, no glam. Bye sweetie!”
However, the angelic singer tells the elf: “You can’t cancel Christmas!” As the elf, played by Billy Eichner, leaves, he asks Mariah whether she has any last words – and she quickly says: “Yeah.” The elf then starts to get covered in ice as Mariah sings: “It’s time!”
She can then be seen flying over a snowy New York City delivering presents while in command of her sleigh as All I Want for Christmas Is You plays. Mariah’s “It’s time” videos are an annual tradition, as she always releases them on November 1, the day after Halloween.
In September, she announced she was working on the clip with director Joseph Kahn. After she shared the video on Instagram, comedian and actor Billy, 47, commented: “Always an honor to be your elf, @mariahcarey!”
“Quite iconic,” commented content creator Frank Grimsley. A fan said: “It’s timeeeeee.” One more added: “The queen has officially declared that IT’S TIMEEEEE, been waiting all year for this.”
“OMG! Now I can sleep,” wrote one, “Merry Christmaaaaaas !!!” Other speculated that the collaboration with Sephora could be a hint that Mariah may be working on a new make-up line.
In 2023, Mariah admitted she never gets tired of Christmas. The singer told The Mirror: “I really do love Christmas and I love the holidays. The magic is still real for me, and the song is part of that. I sing it from the heart every time.”
However, Christmas hasn’t always been a happy time for the singer as she explained that the festive period was “a mess” during her childhood after growing up in a “dysfunctional family”, which is why she was so determined to change that. From decorating her multiple trees to indulging in festive food, Mariah enjoys all the classic traditions.
And she has also started a new tradition with her own family, taking her twins Moroccan and Monroe to Aspen, Colorado, every year to experience a white Christmas. “To see snow at Christmas is the greatest joy,” she explained. “It costs money to get to places with snow if you don’t live in one, and we never take that for granted.”
