The Mets offered Edwin Diaz a few million dollars less than the Dodgers did.

Before the closer took Los Angeles’ three-year, $69 million contract on Tuesday, the Mets offered three years, $66 million with modest deferrals, The Post’s Joel Sherman reports.

The Mets did express there was wiggle room to go higher before Diaz decided to go coast to coast to join the World Series champs.

The Blue Jays, who lost to the Dodgers in this year’s Fall Classic, were also in on Diaz.

Diaz opted out of the final two years and $38 million of his five-year, $102 million Mets contract to hit the market and secured an extra $31 million.

The average annual value on Diaz’s Dodgers deal is a record for a relief pitcher.

Diaz enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career in 2025, pitching to a 1.63 ERA with 28 saves and 98 strikeouts in 66 ⅓ innings and earning his third career All-Star nod.

The right-hander had a roller-coaster seven-year run with the Mets, which included missing the entire 2023 season after tearing his patellar tendon celebrating at the World Baseball Classic.

The Mets also lost out on Kyle Schwarber on Tuesday as the slugger re-signed with the Phillies on a five-year, $150 million contract, a record for a designated hitter.
