Mukesh Bhatt On Not Being Invited To Alia’s Wedding, Didn’t Meet Her Daughter, ‘Aankhe Taras Gayi..’

Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt have delivered some of the most iconic films in Bollywood. They were the iconic producer-director duos of the ’90s. Together, they both co-founded a production company, Vishesh Films, in 1986 and worked on many films such as Aashiqui and Sadak. However, when the elder brother, Mahesh Bhatt, decided to walk out of the production house, it was the end of an era and their relationship too.

Mahesh is the elder brother of Mukesh, and the two shared a beautiful relationship once, but over the years, their relationship has strained. However, the rift deepened when Mukesh wasn’t invited to his niece, Alia Bhatt’s wedding. Recently, in an interview with Lehren TV, Mukesh Bhatt admitted that it was a heartbreaking moment when he didn’t get the invite to his favourite niece, Alia’s wedding in April 2021. 

The Vishesh Films producer, Mukesh Bhatt, revealed that he felt extremely bad as he loved Alia a lot, and not just her but also Shaheen and Sunny. He shared that he wanted to be part of his niece’s celebration. He said:

“Yes, I’ll be honest. I’ll be a hypocrite, agar aap bolengi I didn’t feel bad.. of course, I felt bad,” he admitted. The veteran producer further shared, “I love Alia a lot. I’m very attached to her, also Shaheen, Sunny. Toh jab Alia ki shaadi hui, i felt, ‘Meri bacchi ki shaadi hai’ and I was very much wanting to be there.”

Getting emotional, Mukesh also shared his state of mind when he found out about his daughter’s pregnancy. He added that his eyes are yearning to meet her daughter, Raha. He was quoted as saying:

“When I found out she was pregnant and later had a baby, meri aankhein taras gayi uske bacche ko dekhne ke liye.”‘

In a 2012 interview with Filmfare, Mahesh Bhatt revealed that he and his brother, Mukesh Bhatt, hail from a family of filmmakers, but from the beginning, they knew they had to buckle up if they wanted to make a name. When Mahesh Bhatt started working as a director, his brother, Mukesh became his assistant. In 1986, they launched their own production house. Mukesh Bhatt, in the same interview, revealed that he can do without his wife, but not without his brother, Mahesh Bhatt. He stated that his wife got upset with his statement, but he was honest. However, they parted ways, leaving the entire film industry in shock.

Mukesh and Mahesh never addressed the reason behind their split. However, Mukesh once revealed that Mahesh is just the consultant while Vishesh’s film is his company. He also claimed that it will be managed by his children, Sakshi and Vishesh, but Mahesh doesn’t want to stick to the position.

Later, Vikram Bhatt revealed that the conflict was created between the two brothers as it wasn’t there before. He blamed himself for the conflict and stated that it was due to his ego and it was his mistake. Vikram was quoted as saying:

“The conflict was created, it was not there. There was a misunderstanding. I think I am at fault in that misunderstanding because as his student, I should have asked him, ‘What I am hearing and reading, have you said that? Or has somebody made you say that?’ But I never did that. I was in my own ego and that was my mistake. Because if I think of him as my guru, I should have respected him. When I went back to him after 5-6 years, I told him, ‘Boss, I am not here to direct a film. I am here to admit my mistake. I will do whatever you ask me too. If you say edit a film or drive my car, I do everything.’ He got very emotional.”
