HYDERABAD: Social welfare minister Adluri Laxman Kumar on Tuesday said the Nizampet dumping yard near the Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions (TGSWREIS) Degree College building in Bachupally would be shifted within 30 days, after residents complained that the site had become a health risk for colonies, double-bedroom housing beneficiaries and students expected to study there.
The minister inspected the dumping yard along with district collector M. Manu Choudary and said the conditions around the site made it difficult to stand there even for a few minutes. “The welfare of Gurukul students, public health and clean surroundings are the government’s priorities,” he said, adding that a modern hostel for Scheduled Caste students was being built in the area at a cost of ₹20 crore and the government had to provide a clean and safe campus before students moved in.
Residents also told the minister that the dumping yard surroundings had become a spot for anti-social elements. He referred to the earlier dog attack on a child and said he would speak to the DCP for a special patrolling vehicle and action against illegal activity.
Choudary said the educational institution building was complete and an alternative site had been identified for the dumping yard. He said the yard would be moved quickly in coordination with corporation officials.
