Hyderabad: In a breakthrough against international drug trafficking, EAGLE Force Telangana, in coordination with Customs and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has busted a transnational OG (ocean grown) ganja smuggling network operating between Bangkok and India.
The operation led to the interception of a woman carrier arriving from Bangkok and exposed a larger syndicate recruiting individuals to transport narcotics across borders. “The investigation has revealed links to multiple carriers, interstate operatives and foreign‑based handlers engaged in organised drug trafficking,” said EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya.EAGLE Force director Sandeep Shandilya.
Based on earlier intelligence, officials identified one Challil Puthanpurayil Nafsheed alias Alex of Kerala, who allegedly lured junior artists from Hyderabad into smuggling. On June 6, immigration officials intercepted Doddi Suri Kala, 42, a junior artist from Sanathnagar, on arrival from Bangkok. NCB officers found 2.15 kg of ganja in her baggage.
During interrogation, Kala said she was repeatedly sent abroad under the guise of carrying chocolates and biscuits. She was offered Rs 20,000 per trip. On her first trip in March 2026, she returned to Chennai with packets of ganja handed over to Alex’s associate Raju Biswas. In April, she was again sent to Bangkok, where packets were placed in her luggage before she delivered them near RGIA for Rs 10,000. Her third attempt ended with her arrest in Hyderabad.
Authorities said other women, including co‑artist Ganga Bhawani and another carrier named Gauri, were earlier caught at Bangalore and Chennai airports with contraband. Investigators believe the syndicate exploited vulnerable women, promising quick money while pushing them into high‑risk smuggling operations.
Law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to trace Nafsheed alias Alex, Biswas and foreign handlers. Officials said the case highlights the growing trend of organised crime networks targeting economically weak women for international drug trafficking.
