Phillies interested in Don Mattingly after Blue Jays departure

The Phillies have reached out and expressed interest in hiring Don Mattingly, who just left his job as Blue Jays bench coach

The Phillies happened to have an opening for a bench coach, and their manager, Rob Thomson, is very close to Mattingly from their Yankees days.

Phillies baseball president Dave Dombrowski is a big admirer of Mattingly’s. And Mattingly’s son Preston is the Phillies GM, and he’s in favor, as well. (That’s not a surprise.)

So the ball may be in Mattingly’s court.
