And she said she was surrounded by pals when she eventually took the big step. She continued: “I was crying my eyes out because it’s a big thing, isn’t it.
“It’s one of those moments of acceptance. Wow. That’s it. I’m not married any more. I’m getting divorced.”
Ruth revealed she realised she had made the right decision the morning after. The ring ended up being placed in the drawer.
The presenter also revealed the moment she accepted she required professional help to deal with her split. She explained how seeing Eamonn move on with Katie, who is 22 years younger than her partner, made her realise what was needed.
“Girlfriends are there for you come what may, but I needed a trained counsellor,” she admitted. “Someone who didn’t know me, to help me see the way through all the darkness.”
And Ruth has admitted there is no use in looking back on what has happened. Instead, she says her relationship simply “didn’t last” ad now she has to “look forward”.
However, she did confess to feeling blindsided by her marriage breakdown. She said she had thought she was in a “very happy marriage” but ended up questioning if she had missed something.
““I just didn’t think I’d find myself here, and I wasn’t strong at the start,” she said, confessing she was suffering from a broken heart and broken dreams.
Before their split, Ruth had been acting as Eamonn’s carer as he battled a number of debilitating health issues. Following their split, the GB News presenter moved out of their Surrey home.
