TOKYO, Nov 02 (News On Japan) –
Tokyo’s JR Yamanote Line marked the 100th anniversary of becoming a full loop around the city center in the Taisho era. The circular operation, which connects the capital’s major districts and links suburban private railways to terminal stations, laid the foundation for Tokyo’s urban development.

Today, redevelopment continues around key stations, and the line remains an essential artery for the movement of people and industries across the metropolis.

On November 1st, JR East held a commemorative event using a specially wrapped train featuring designs inspired by past train cars. The train departed from Ikebukuro Station and made a full inner loop of the line. Crew members provided commentary on the scenery from stations and inside the train, while employees holding banners greeted and waved to passengers from station platforms along the route.
