Karwar: Two rowdy-sheeters have been externed from the district for six months following their repeated involvement in criminal activities under the jurisdiction of Murudeshwar Police Station.

The externment orders were issued against Shekhar Naik, 25, a resident of Mavalli-2 in Murdeshwar, and Mithun Naik, 27, of Kerehittal in Konar area of Bhatkal.

According to police, several criminal cases had been registered against the duo at Murudeshwar Police Station over the past few years.

Police said rowdy sheets had been opened against both accused and their activities were under surveillance. However, despite continuous monitoring, they allegedly continued to engage in criminal activities, creating fear among the public and posing a threat to law and order in the area.

Based on a proposal submitted by the Murdeshwar Police Sub-Inspector, the Special Executive Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, Uttara Kannada district, conducted an inquiry into the matter. After hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the respondents, the authorities concluded that externment action was necessary.

Subsequently, on May 20 orders were issued under Sections 55(a) and 55(b) of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963, directing the externment of the two accused from Uttara Kannada district for six months.

As per the order, Shekhar Naik was externed to the jurisdiction of Hosabadavane Police Station in Tumakuru district, while Mithun Naik was sent to the jurisdiction of Gandhi Chowk Police Station in Vijayapura district.

Murdeshwar police personnel escorted both the accused and handed them over to the respective police station authorities in the districts where they have been directed to reside during the externment period.
