Married At First Sight Australia star Tyson Gordon has spoken out about his controversial comments on the show
Former MAFS groom Tyson Gordon has discussed his contentious stint on the reality programme in a recent television appearance.
The Australian participant featured in Series 13, which has recently concluded broadcasting for UK viewers. He swiftly drew criticism after outlining his requirements in a partner, particularly when he disclosed he desired a “submissive woman”.
Despite generating controversy, however, Tyson remains seeking a “traditional” spouse. But the reality personality claims he chose his words poorly when characterising his ideal partner as “submissive”.
“So, submissive was the wrong word to use. Traditional is the word I was looking for and traditional is a word I wanted to use,” he told 60 Minutes Australia on Sunday (May 24).
He informed journalist Amelia Adams that he isn’t “looking for a dog” to obey him. “I’m not looking to put my wife on a leash at all,” Tyson added, reports OK!.
The property developer clarified: “I don’t expect to chain her up in the kitchen and say, ‘Make me a sandwich’,” before adding: “She’s not just going to be locked up in here all day. It’s nothing like that.”
From his perspective, “there’s really nothing wrong with wanting a traditional relationship in this day and age. I think if you can financially support it, then why not?”
MAFS experts believed they had discovered Tyson’s ideal match in 2026 bride Stephanie Marshall, who appeared to embrace similar traditional values.
However, it quickly emerged that the pair were incompatible. Friction escalated when they discussed their intimate histories while on honeymoon.
Tyson expressed concern that Steph had 20 sexual partners, despite having been intimate with approximately 30 people himself.
The Queensland celebrity subsequently justified his ‘body count’ remarks as a “preference”.
“I go to church – I want more of a pure girl,” he told TV Week. “Everyone’s got preferences. You’ve got preferences; the cameraman’s got preferences. For my preference, I just don’t want a girl with 200 bodies.”
