The Congress party has endorsed an IIT-IIM graduate for the seat of Patna Sahib. The name of the candidate filed is Shashant Shekhar. He’s a civil engineer from the 2014 batch of IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Delhi and a graduate from the 2017 batch of IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Calcutta. He’s contesting against a candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), named Ratnesh Kushwaha, who’s contesting in the election for the first time.

What makes Sushant Shekhar unique?

Sushant Shekhar began his early career at a startup in Bangalore. Later, he shifted to Samsung’s Innovation Labs. The IIM graduate received an offer from a German-based multinational for a placement in Berlin, which he rejected, saying, “Why chase euros when I can build a future for my people?”

After working for startups and Samsung’s Innovation Labs, he collaborated with several political consultancy firms, including I-PAC and Inclusive Minds.

Family background of Sushant Shekhar

The contestant from Patna Sahib comes from a political family. Sushant’s father was the contestant in four Assembly Elections from eastern Patna. The leader even started a dairy farm in 2023 with around 80 cows, which provides employment to many people in his village.

Sushant Shekhar on joining the Congress

The candidate from Patna Sahib said that after working as a political leader for six years, he chose to join the Congress Party because his ideologies matched with the party. He further added, “The election is going to be different. Voters will focus on issues rather than caste. People now want work according to their needs.”
