The past two Winter Meetings for the Yankees were dominated by Juan Soto, from the 2023 trade that brought him from San Diego to the bidding war with the Mets a year ago.
There is no ultimate prize this offseason, no top target who will shake the entire sport, as Soto did.
Instead, when the meetings begin Sunday in Orlando, Fla., the Yankees will be focused on the player that was a central part of their Plan B a year ago, Cody Bellinger, now a free agent they are hoping to retain — unless they go for the younger and more expensive Kyle Tucker.
It’s a different landscape than last year, when much of the sport’s business waited on Soto’s decision.
