وكانت ماكين قد تعرّضت لجلطة دماغية خفيفة في أكتوبر 2025، قبل أن تعود إلى العمل الشهر الماضي.

غير أن البرنامج أوضح في بيانه أنها “خلصت إلى أن متطلبات منصبها تتجاوز قدرتها على التعافي الكامل”.

وقالت ماكين: “بقلب مثقل أعلن نيتي الاستقالة”، بحسب البيان، وتتولى رئاسة برنامج الأغذية العالمي منذ أبريل 2023.
وتبلغ ماكين من العمر 71 عاما، وهي أرملة السناتور الأمريكي الراحل جون ماكين، المرشح الجمهوري إلى الانتخابات الرئاسية عام 2008.
