The Falcons head to Northern California to take on the banged-up 49ers

With all their injuries on the offensive side, it appears San Francisco’s defense is starting to catch up.

Having already lost star pass rusher Nick Bosa to a torn ACL, the 49ers got even worse news when All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner dislocated and fractured his right ankle last week.

Due in part to all the injuries, the 49ers’ pass defense has been faltering of late — just when it appears Michael Penix Jr. is figuring it out.

49ers vs. Falcons odds, prediction

Over the last three games, Niners opponents have averaged 266.7 yards through the air per game, which is the fourth-most in the NFL over that stretch.

Wide receivers have been popping against the 49ers, specifically.

Last week, the relatively unknown Kameron Johnson went off for 64 yards with the Buccaneers’ Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka — who left the game at halftime — sidelined.

Two weeks ago, the Rams had three different receivers — Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Tutu Atwell — go for at least 70 receiving yards against the 49ers defense.

That’s good news for Penix, who has been strong of late, throwing for 563 yards combined over his past two games.

He’s developed a strong connection with Atlanta’s top receiver, Drake London.

Betting on the NFL?

Over that stretch, London has gone for 268 yards through the air with a touchdown in both games.

The Falcons WR2, Darnell Mooney, is reportedly likely to return from a hamstring injury, but I’m not letting that shy me away from London.

The play: Drake London Over 69.5 receiving yards (-110, DraftKings Sportsbook)
