Who knew a reluctant swipe on Bumble, made en route to a Diljit Dosanjh concert, could spark a destined-to-last-a-lifetime fairy-tale romance? Meet Amandeep Kaur Gill and Sandeep Singh Bains. Her family had insisted she try a dating app, convinced she’d find a match in Birmingham’s vibrant Punjabi community. “I honestly didn’t believe them and only downloaded it to keep the peace. Surprisingly, I matched with Sandeep right after the concert. It felt like destiny,” she recalls. Their conversations quickly deepened, revolving around music, design, and shared laughter, eventually leading to a first date in Milton Keynes where Sandeep arrived with flowers and a meticulously planned day of movies, crazy golf and a pit stop at McDonald’s. It was a date neither wanted to end.

Months later, the couple found themselves in Cappadocia, Turkey, where Sandeep recreated a whimsical dream Amandeep had once joked about: a hot-air-balloon proposal at sunset. “It was surreal, a dream come true. I froze in time just at the moment he asked me, under the sunset and hot air balloons—better than I ever imagined,” she says, recalling how the moment surpassed all expectations and left them both beaming. “The long pause got me a little worried,” Bains adds, “but it was totally worth the planning and sneaking around.”

When planning their nuptials, a wedding in Dubai emerged as the perfect destination. “We both wanted a destination wedding from the start. Dubai screamed luxury, offered a stunning Gurdwara, was easier to get to from the UK, and had a beautiful city and beach setting,” Gill explains. The city became the canvas for four distinct celebrations: the Mayian and Choora, the Jago, the Anand Karaj and the reception. Each was carefully curated through Gill’s creative studio, A&K, Art and Kraft, which produced illustrated welcome boards, menus and stationery that told the couple’s story. Bains’ analytical eye as a CAD/CAM engineer perfectly complemented Gill’s artistic vision. “Our background in creativity and design helped us source the correct inspirational images from wedding magazines, Instagram, Pinterest boards and Google Images, which we put together on a Keynote moodboard for each event,” she says.

The Mayian and Choora burst with pink and yellow energy on the Radisson Blu Canal View Terrace, with the Burj Khalifa sparkling behind them. Gill dazzled in a Chhavi Aggarwal yellow and pink floral-embroidered lehenga, paired with gold Jimmy Choo heels, a colourful choker and matching earrings. Bains kept it minimal in a crisp white kurta and blue ramal. Haldi rituals were performed by the family and the choora ceremony brought quiet, emotional moments. Guests feasted on aloo chaat, golgappe, samosas, pakoras and laddu.
