Sam Rivers Had Left His Band And Rejoined Three Years Later Due To Treatment For A Liver Transplant

Sam Rivers was the founding bassist for Limp Bizkit, and in a piece of sad news, at the age of 48, he passed away. Limp Bizkit took to their Instagram handle to announce the demise of Sam and wrote how he was a once-in-a-lifetime human. The exact cause of demise has not been disclosed, but Rivers was a true legend and his spirit will live forever in every groove. However, do you know, Sam had quit his band for a few years due to health issues and had again joined?

Sam Rivers left his band, Limp Bizkit, for three years due to a liver transplant

Sam has left behind his bandmates, brothers, and his family mourns his loss during this time of privacy. Sam had left Limp Bizkit for two years due to his liver disease, caused by his drinking habits. Sam had spoken about the same in rock writer, Jon Wiederhorn’s book called, Raising Hell (Backstage Tales From the Lives of Metal Legends). Sam revealed his liver disease, leaving his soul band in 2015, undergoing a transplant, and how he rejoined in 2018. Sam had shared:

“I had to leave Limp Bizkit in 2015 because I felt so horrible, and a few months after that I realized I had to change everything because I had really bad liver disease. I quit drinking and did everything the doctors told me. I got treatment for the alcohol and got a liver transplant, which was a perfect match.”

Sam Rivers did not leave his band due to a degenerative disc disease

For the unversed, the nu-metal band called Limp Bizkit was formed back in 1994 in Jacksonville, Florida. Rivers had met the main lead vocalist, called Durst, when both of them worked at a Chick-fil-A restaurant, according to a report by Deadline. Sadly, because of Rivers’ liver disease in 2015, which led to extreme complications, he had to leave the band. It was earlier believed that Sam left the band because of a degenerative disc disease but he had clarified that due to extreme liver disease and the transplant he had left. Loud Wire in 2020 quoted Sam’s words and said:

“I had to leave Limp Bizkit in 2015 because I felt so horrible, and a few months after that I realized I had to change everything because I had really bad liver disease.”

Limp Bizkit became famous back in the late ’90s to the 2000s and was known for their songs such as Break Stuff, Rollin (Air Raid Vehicle), Take A Look Around, and Also My Way. The band had released six studio albums, which were also platinum certified.

Did doctors warn Sam River that he would die due to his drinking habits?

Reportedly, Sam had left drinking and followed everything that his doctor had advised him to do so. They had also received the treatment for the alcohol issue and the liver transplant, which was actually a perfect match. Sam had again started drinking, and doctors told him that if he had not stopped, he would die. Sam’s condition had worsened due to his drinking habits. It was in 2017 when Sam underwent a liver transplant, and reportedly, in 2018, he joined his band. Sam had no option but to listen to what his doctors had advised him to do.
