Bryan Mbeumo scored his first goal since August to give Manchester United a second-minute lead at Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday – but home manager Arne Slot and former Reds player Jamie Carragher felt the goal should not have stood because of a head injury for Alexis Mac Allister.
With Mac Allister on the turf, Mbeumo met Amad Diallo’s deft pass inside the penalty area on the left with a neat finish before Slot pointed to his head to signal that play should have stopped.

“United fans are delirious,” ex-Red Devils captain Gary Neville told Sky Sports. “Mbeumo runs round the back of [Virgil] Van Dijk.
“I don’t think Van Dijk sees him. Mbeumo is like a boxer – off he goes. A stunning start for United.”

The goal was allowed because referee Michael Oliver had not seen that Mac Allister had suffered a head injury, which usually results in an immediate halt to allow treatment to be given.
