‘We could have easily won’ – Frank rues Tottenham’s wastefulness after Villa defeat

Tottenham head coach Thomas Frank praised Aston Villa for their moments of quality after they came from behind to beat the North London side 2-1.

Spurs stormed into the lead inside five minutes. Rodrigo Bentancur latched on to a Joao Palhinha header to put his side 1-0 up.

But the Villans fought back to make it five consecutive wins in all competitions. Firstly, Morgan Rogers produced a moment of magic, beating Guglielmo Vicario from range with a dipping effort.

Then, in the second half, substitute Emiliano Buendia curled one into the bottom corner, completing the comeback.

Speaking after the game, Frank gave his assessment. He said: “It was exactly the game I expected it to be, against two good teams, very tight.

“There weren’t too many chances. I think overall it could’ve gone either way. I think 1-1 would’ve been a fair result.

“Villa scored two goals from outside the box in moments where you wouldn’t expect them to score. Fair play for their moments of quality. We also easily could’ve won.

“There were two big teams on the pitch. We started very well. Villa produced two goals out of nothing and we had four or five moments where we couldn’t produce.

“If you told me before the game that these players will be shooting from these positions I’d have said ‘happy days’.”

Spurs have now won just three of their last 18 home games, already losing twice in the Premier League under Frank.
