A former star of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! has opened up about their time on the show confessing that they feel like they were made to look like a ‘bad person’

Former professional boxer Amir Khan has suggested that he was made to look like the “bad guy” during his appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here. He opened up about his famous scene where he and Iain Lee were both appearing on the show in 2017.

The duo were seen wolfing down a portion of strawberries and cream and not sharing them with their hunger-stricken campmates at the time. The sportsman has no insisted he never intended for the decision to eat the dish to cause drama in the camp.

He said: “At the time, when I ate them, I thought, yeah, I’m having them. I didn’t know the cameras were rolling, and that people back home were going to be watching.”

Speaking to the Daily Star, he continued, “See, this is the thing, I didn’t realise how big of a show I’m a Celebrity was. I’d never watched it before. I didn’t know how the system worked.

“But when I re-watched what I did, the way it was edited made me look like such a bad person, like I was doing it on purpose to upset everyone in camp. But honestly, I was just being silly, a bit boisterous. That’s just who I am.”

As he recalled the moment in a further reflection, Amir admitted it was controversial. He said: “Looking back, it made me look bad. But would I do it again? I probably would. Yeah, why not? But this time, I’d tell them straight: ‘Yeah, I ate them, what are you going to do about it?’

“I remember there was Jamie Lomas, Georgia Toffolo, and even Stanley Johnson, Boris Johnson ’s dad. Even if I did say I ate them, I don’t think they could’ve done anything anyway.”

Now as I’m A Celeb: All Stars is set to make a comeback, Amir has shared how he feels about doing the show twice. He said, “The first one is always harder. You’re not expecting how intense, how crazy it’s going to be.

“You’re suddenly stuck with snakes and spiders, you just can’t imagine they’d do something like that to you. The second time, it’s easier because you know what to expect.”

He also shared how the first experience was more nerve wracking, but helped him to become braver. He noted that he feels the situation could be the same for fellow former boxer David Haye, who is taking part in the upcoming series of All Stars.

Amir said: “If an animal bites you, you’ve got a first aid team to make sure you’re alright. I still took that leap even though I was scared, and it pulled me through. So, I think with David Haye going in again, he’s going to smash it. He’ll do much better than the first time because he knows what to expect.”
