Tom Holland, who was previously a top contender to play the next James Bond, is reportedly out of the running due to reported contractual obligations with Marvel
Spiderman actor Tom Holland is reportedly out of the running to play the next James Bond due to contractual obligations with Marvel.
Tom, who was previously a top contender, is now out of the running as a source claimed that Tom cannot take a job which will overshadow his commitments with his role as Spiderman in the Marvel Universe.
Huge actors including Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson and Jacob Elord have long been rumoured to take on the role, but House of Guinness star Anthony Boyle is now slotted in as one of the frontrunners for the role.
While the role of 007 is yet to be decided, Tom, 29, has reportedly signed a contract with Marvel, which will stop him from taking on the role. A source revealed: “Tom can’t play two superheroes, it just won’t happen.”

“This is the first Bond of the AI era and the plot is going to reflect that. Writers are going to have some fun. This next Bond movie has to feel bold, fresh and relevant, especially after such a long break,” they told The Sun.
The Mirror has contacted Tom Holland’s representatives for a comment.
As fans eagerly wait for the confirmation on who will take on the iconic role of James Bond in the upcoming instalment of the franchise, a new name was recently thrown into the mix.
The bookies at Ladbrokes sent House of Guinness star Anthony straight in at 10/1 in the odds earlier this month. It comes as the star was named as the Netflix drama series’s “secret weapon” and landed rave reviews for his performance.
The uncertainty over who will take on the role and don the iconic tuxedo as James Bond has been debated for four years since Daniel Craig last hung up his Walther PPK.
The next James Bond movie, which will be the 26th film in the franchise, is reported to start production next April at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
The creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, is tasked with the storyline and Denis Villeneuve is the director who is reportedly set to lead the search for the next James Bond.
The character, which was originally created by Ian Fleming for his series of spy novels in 1953, was catapulted to global fame in the 1960s when it hit the silver screen. Ever since, a host of Hollywood heavyweights have portrayed the suave secret agent.
As well as Craig, the likes of Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan have had the honour of taking on the role.
