Ogawa: “I considered options such as resigning or calling a new election, but I have concluded that it is my responsibility to deliver on the promises I made rather than step down at this point. I have come to deeply feel the weight of my duties.”

The controversy erupted after it was revealed that Ogawa had met a married male city employee at a hotel. Amid mounting pressure, including a call from the city council on October 3rd to promptly make a decision regarding his position, Ogawa announced he would cut his salary by 50 percent while continuing to serve as mayor.
