David Beckham has been asked to front a takeover bid for former club Manchester United led by an unknown consortium from the United Arab Emirates

David Beckham has been approached to front a takeover bid for Manchester United. Beckham spent over a decade at Old Trafford, making almost 400 appearances.

Rumours swirled this month that United could be set for some investment or a takeover. Turki Al-Sheikh first claimed that talks had begun with a prospective bidder and later clarified that it was not Saudi Arabia who were interested.

Now, an unknown consortium from the UAE is preparing an offer for the Glazer family’s majority shares, and they want Beckham to be an ambassador for the bid, rather than back it with his mammoth net worth.

Beckham has amassed a considerable fortune from his days on the field and his exploits off of it. He currently owns stakes in both Inter Miami and Salford City.

The Englishman’s net worth currently stands at a reported £300million. Beckham retired in 2013 whilst playing for PSG and by the time he called it quits, Business Insider claims he had earned a staggering £580m.

He was the highest-paid player globally at one stage and the groundbreaking five-year contract he signed with LA Galaxy in 2008 would be worth around £190m in total these days.

But the 50-year-old added to this fortune through various endorsements and brand deals. Beckham has worked with the likes of Emporio Armani, Gillette, PepsiCo, H&M, Breitling and Adidas.

Beckham has also put his name to various products over the years, including his own fragrance line, video games and some signature sunglasses.

An eponymous Netflix documentary that aired in 2023 reportedly earned him roughly £20m and in that year alone he raked in just over £72m from various products and brand deals.

Beckham also signed a 10-year contract to serve as an ambassador for Qatar, reportedly earning around £125m in total from the country. Besides generating enormous income from his various ventures, Beckham is known for his lavish spending.

He has a portfolio of over a dozen properties valued at approximately £70m. This includes a luxury penthouse in Miami purchased for £17.5m and a London townhouse estimated at about £30m.

His wife, Victoria, famed for being a member of the Spice Girls, has a net worth of £200m. If combined, the power couple has an accumulative fortune of over £500m. Though none of this will go into the consortium’s potential bid.

Beckham has merely been asked to be an ambassador, and other legendary United players such as Wayne Rooney and Eric Cantona have been considered too.
