Meta Layoff: The United States-based multinational company, Meta, is implementing a major restructuring in its intelligence division, which could fire hundreds of its employees while simultaneously increasing recruitment for its newly established TBD Lab, Axios reported. The company’s decision showcases its effort to streamline its operations.

Why Meta Is Firing 600 Employees

As per a report by Axios, citing Meta’s internal memo, Meta’s extended initiative in AI had become majorly bureaucratic. According to Alexandr Wang, Meta’s Chief AI Officer leaner team is more productive. “By reducing the size of our team, fewer conversations will be required to make a decision, and each person will be more load-bearing and have more scope and impact,” he said.

The layoff is expected to affect nearly 600 roles across the company’s FAIR AI research unit, AI product and infrastructure teams. Meta is also encouraging affected employees to apply for the other internal roles.

“This is a talented group of individuals, and we need their skills in other parts of the company,” Wang said.
