I’ve really been appreciating this influx of celebrity candidness about cosmetic procedures. Now more than ever, even though it’s technically none of our business as total strangers and onlookers, famous folks like Megan Fox, Kylie Jenner, and her mom, Kris Jenner, are squashing speculation and stigma by letting us know the work they’ve had done. And while some celebrities stay quiet about what treatments they’ve tried (as is their right) and others deny procedures that may seem all but impossible to deny, I actually totally believed Hailey Bieber when she recently said she’s still holding off on Botox.
Bieber is on the latest episode of the podcast In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele, and the two spent a few minutes of the nearly hour-long episode discussing skin care and treatments. (Not that long when you consider Bieber is the brains behind one of the most successful beauty brands around.) Thiele asked the Rhode founder to pretend she’s not on a podcast and “be real” about what she does—to which she replies, “Why would I lie?” And then she happily starts listing treatments she’s done.
“I’m just really diligent with my skincare, but there are treatments that I really do like,” she says, starting with PRP, aka platelet-rich plasma, with microneedling, which is often called a “vampire facial” and is also used for hair loss. “I love PRP, which is when they take your blood from your arms and they spin it.” The treatment has been shown to improve skin texture and tone by stimulating cell repair and boosting collagen.
Another blood-centric treatment she’s into: platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), sometimes called EZ Gel. “I’ve done PRF, which is, they take your blood, but they—it’s called EZ Gel—and basically they heat it, and then they cool it, and it kind of, like, makes your blood like a gel consistency,” she says. “And then you inject it. So I’ve done that, which I loved.”
She goes on to see she’s used PRF to treat her nasolabial area and undereyes—areas commonly treated with hyaluronic acid-based filler. “But it’s your own blood. And that’s the thing, is I like to do things that I can trust is from your own body,” Bieber says. Dermatologists Allure has previously spoken to about PRF say the data about its effectiveness is limited and that they’re skeptical that it can do what hyaluronic fillers can do.
