Suhana Khan stepped out in a Torani lehenga that captures the spirit of Gujarati patola in a contemporary form. Styled by Ami Patel and Anushka, the look was described by designer Karan Torani as a celebration of “India in its most resplendent form,” interpreted through the ease and lightness Khan naturally carries.

The ensemble is a mélange of colours and crafts. The handwoven lehenga, the designer explains, is “a story that has travelled centuries from the looms of Gujarat, once worn only by queens and women of royal lineage.” It is composed of 24 kalis, each a universe of elephants, parrots and butterflies, the traditional symbols of abundance, love and transformation sacred to patola. “The palette draws from the light of Diwali itself, hues that move from marigold mustard to the burning red of diyas, contrasted against soft mehendi greens that ground the radiance in earth.”

Originally envisioned as a choli set, the outfit was later transformed into “a satranga corset, crafted entirely of ghungroos, shells and latkans” and paired with a diaphanous chiffon dupatta edged in Torani’s signature kinari.
