Two decades after competing on Big Brother, one star looks almost unrecognisable as he signs up for another reality TV series that could win him a huge cash prize
One Big Brother star is headed back to the world of reality TV and looks completely different. It’s been 20 years since he was on the show and now he could be in with a chance to millions of pounds via another competition show.
Glyn Wise competed on the seventh series of Big Brother in 2006 and came second. His series is the joint-second longest in Big Brother history, lasting for 93 days. At the time, the Welshman was just 18.
After the show, Glyn made a few television appearances and was a regular presenter on BBC Radio Cymru from 2006 to 2012. But in September 2012, he stepped away from the spotlight.

Glyn started to work as an Welsh language teacher in a secondary school, and later went on to be a tutor at Cardiff University. But by April 2022, Glyn had changed his career again and trained to become an ordained minister in the Church of Wales.
Now, he is returning to TV as part of Netflix’s Squid Game: The Challenge. The show is a reality TV spin-off of the hit Korean drama Squid Game, which saw desperate contestants compete in challenges to win money. The twist was that those who lost would be killed.
Thankfully, the reality TV version is not so fatal and contestants who lose are simply sent home. However, the prize for the winners is extraordinary. Whoever takes home the grand prize will be banking $4.56 million.
Fans were delighted to see Glyn back on screen but barely recognised him as it has been almost two decades. He no longer has his bleached blonde, closely cropped hair, and instead, had no hair at all. He has also grown a neatly groomed beard.
Some fans poked fun at Glyn, who didn’t have a few basic cooking skills whilst in the Big Brother house. “Can he boil an egg yet?” one asked. Another said: “He’s cooking an egg for the very first time.”
Glyn’s season of Big Brother saw a lot of controversy. First, it was criticised for its choice of housemates, especially after one contestant threatened to kill himself on live television. That contestant was closely monitored by the production team but eventually walked away from the house, admitting he had downplayed his mental health struggles during the selection process.
The show also saw controversy after Glyn spoke in his first language, Welsh. Viewers were unhappy that Glyn was told off for “speaking in code” when Welsh is one of the British languages. Later in the show, both Glyn and fellow Welsh contestant Imogen were allowed to continue speaking in Welsh.
There were less than 20 people taking part in Big Brother, but there are 456 taking part in Squid Game: The Challenge. The series will be starting in November.
